Multi-Block Relief (Lino) Printmaking (botanical inspired) | 18th April | 10am - 3:30pm
Explore the creative potential of relief (lino) printmaking through the use of translucent inks and embossed texture in this contemporary botanical workshop.
Across the day you’ll experiment with printing carved elements - for example seed forms, stems and leaves - which can be layered and re-combined to build dynamic compositions. Using extender-based translucent colours, you’ll discover how overlapping forms create new tones, subtle gradients and unexpected visual interactions and textures.
The workshop begins with guided botanical observation and drawing from seasonal specimens and imagery. Trish and Nick will share insights into local plant life to support your studies and inspire your design choices.
Across the day you will learn:
a brief history of relief printing with examples of fine-art print
techniques to observe and draw ideas for your block sections
experimental mark-making using carving tools
techniques in how to roll ink for clean, expressive impressions
how to print multi-blocks using translucent (extender) colours for depth and embossing
about different paper types for printmaking
explore contemporary approaches to colour, design and layout
press and pull final prints to take home
This is a playful and experimental workshop suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some printmaking experience who want to explore layering, transparency and colour. Expect a relaxed and supportive environment with plenty of time to test ideas, combine elements and push the material in creative ways.
Hot drinks and biscuits are provided - just bring curiosity (and a packed lunch). You’ll leave with a portfolio of layered botanical prints and the confidence to continue exploring at home.
