Introduction to Relief (Lino) Printmaking (coastal habitat inspired) | 21st March | 10am - 3:30pm
Experience a creative one-day workshop exploring the art of lino (relief) printmaking through the lens of coastal habitats - from mussel shells to seaweed, strand-lines to velvet swimming crab
Uniquely, this workshop is themed around coastal observation. You’ll begin with guided drawing sessions using specimens and photographs. Trish and Nick will share their knowledge of UK wildlife to help you develop the design and compositions for your print.
Across the day you will learn:
a brief history of relief printing with examples of fine-art print
techniques to observe and draw ideas for your print
how to plan and refine a design for relief printing
experimental mark-making using carving tools
techniques in how to roll ink for clean, expressive impressions
about different paper types for printmaking
press and pull final prints to take home
We’ll introduce the essential tools, materials and techniques used in relief printing, with plenty of time for experimentation, questions and individual guidance.
Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to art after a break, or simply drawn to botanical themes, this workshop offers an enjoyable and supportive space to create unique prints inspired by the natural world.
Hot drinks and biscuits are provided - just bring your curiosity (and a packed lunch). You’ll leave with your own limited-edition prints and the confidence to continue lino printing at home.
